A man cannot live on bread alone, but if he knows how to use stale bread properly, he can certainly save himself some cash.
We've all probably found ourselves throwing away stale rolls or baguettes at some point – bread that's technically edible, but just to hard and dry to eat. Yet even if it's not fit for sandwiches, there are plenty of ways to make sure your stale bread doesn't go completely to waste. Here are a few:
Stuffing: Simply cut up your stale bread into small chunks, then mix it with your favorite meat stock and chopped vegetables. The stock will make up for the bread's lack of moisture.
Croutons: Chop your bread into small chunks, brush with olive oil, season however you wish and back on a cookies sheet until crisp but not burned.
Bread crumbs: Drop your stale bread into a blender and hit the button until it's ground into small bits. Use as a coating for fried foods.
Sauce Thickener: Make bread crumbs using the method above, then add to any sauce recipe in place of corn starch or flour for an alternative thickening agent.
Bread Pudding: Mix larger bread pieces with eggs, milk, sugar and seasonings, then bake in the oven at 350 degrees until it reaches the desired consistency.
French Toast: You don't want it to be too stale for this one, but bread that's lost some of its moisture will actually hold up better in the frying pan.
What are some of your uses for stale bread?

I like this! Too bad I don't cook enough to try all these great ideas out.
Unless it's really, really bad--I toast it well done crunchy and slather on some PB or jam or spread. The same with stale chips--just toast them and dip them up and they're just like new, if not better! I love slightly overcooked..in these cases.
But stuffing and croutons are also a personal fave. Unfortunately I am currently on NO carbs, doctor's orders. Loved them TOO much, apparently. :P
You know what? This would make a really good theme. Uses of stale bread.
I buy bread from the bakery every other day, so I always have this stuff around.
Bruschetta.
FRIKKEN LOVE BREAD AND BUTTER PUDDING!
Garlic bread. Cut the loaf of bread (or rolls) in half. Slather with butter and some garlic. Bake it. It turns out great!
we save all of or stale breads here, we have it cut up into croutons and stored in our pantry, we have also kept whole slices for additions to soups, to make bread crumbs etc.
Hooray, wonderful post! I always mean to try bread pudding, but I never get around to it. I usually just toast my old bread up super crispy and eat it buttered.
Never tried stale bread as bread pudding or a sauce thickener.
wow, talk about bad editing
i've heard that people use bread slices to wipe fingerprints off of photos. not sure if this works with buttery/greasy bread, but it seems like an interesting idea.
@FireYourBoss@xanga - yum.:)
i made an absolutely devine bread pudding last time i had some stale bread, with melted choc. on top.
.
never thought of using it as a thickener though.

I eat stale bread. I can't really tell if it's stale bread or not
Eating food that may have expired doesn't sound tasty to me.
I eat stale bread. It's fun to eat alone. But sometimes, I'll dip it in my tomato soup.
