Saint VI made a couple of very nice homemade pizzas this evening. They were pan pizzas. One had beef topping and the other had turkey pepperoni. They are simple, tasty and filling.
But I've met a lot of passionate pizza people who have strong feelings about what makes a perfect pizza. The type of crust, the freshness and size and type of toppings, the cheese and sauce used. There are even those who disagree about whether it's best eaten hot out of the oven or as a bachelor breakfast.
What makes a pizza perfect for you?

thin, crispy crust! olives, mushrooms, cheese, pepperoni... i think that's it?
A yummy crust. I like my pizza with a lot of bread.
And cheese.
Cheeesy....
Even before moving here, I always held the New York-style thin crust as the gold standard of pizza. Now, there is no other.
Anything with mushrooms. Or green peppers. Oh, God, red onions too!
thick crust (as long as it's done!), cheese, sauce pepperoni, green peppers and canadian bacon.
I would really like to make a homemade pizza with chicken, green peppers, sauce and cheese just to see what it's like, lol.
Blondie's Pepperoni Special <3
@zeejay - I know I should be shot as someone who grew up in The City, but I've come to love Chicago deep dish as of late.
To be honest though, I pretty much love all pizza. One of the interesting things to do is to travel the country/ world and try the various kinds of pizza there to see how they interpret it. I also like the way they do pizza in Taipei, and in Tokyo. Did you know St. Louis, MO has a specific style too? As well as Detroit (though I still identify this as Chicago-derived), and even New Haven, CT? California's take on Chicago is unique as well; as is Hawaii's take on New York. Or a Japanese take on Californian. And then there's always the French Pissaladière, which is good just as-is.
Pizza is one of those things that brings the world together, I think. Because you know, we might hate each other for some reason, or not understand each other culturally -- but in Pizza, even with the NY-Chicago-Cali dispute, I think I could sit down with just about anyone for a pizza and a beer. It's one of those things that's just basic and human.
I love mines loaded with veggies, and as for cheese, my favourite would have to be feta, but I love all types of cheese. For the crust, I like both thick and thin, it really depends what toppings I use and what I am in the mood for. I should make pizza again. This time I know how to properly spread out the dough. =)
Jalapenossssssss.
Pizza is the perfect food! It has every food group...
It starts with the crust. I prefer it thin with lots of toppings.
The next thing is the sauce. A bad sauce can kill the pizza.
I like all topping in any combination, so pizza buffet is best for me.
When I make my own, people seem to like the thick yeast raised crust with 4 cheeses and lots of pepperoni. It's pizza, so I like it, too!
@Emancip8@xanga - I love jalapenos! <3
ha definately has to be dripping in cheese :)
@osmundaregalis@xanga - There's a pizza that I like making that I think you'd like -- my cousins get together once in a while and do pizza parties, where we prep maybe 5 or 6 base sauces, maybe 10 different cheeses, and about 30 different toppings for us to mix and match; in a combination of thin crust and thick crust.
Anyway, the pizza is grilled veggies (zucchini, artichoke hearts, crimini mushroom, cherry tomato, asparagus, maui onion), with kalamata olives on a garlic sauce base, and then topped with crumbled French Feta, Gruyere and some Parmigiano Reggiano. :)
@chow - Oh wow, you know what? I don't like it.... I LOVE it! <3 That just sounds so wonderful! You've got basically close to everything that I love in it. And I love grilled veggies. Geez Michael, look what you've done.... now I really want to eat that!
i love stuffed crusts.. :]
other than that, i like pretty much any standard topping. (anything other than... pineapple, anchovies, eggs, etc.)
If my mommy makes it!
Hm...seriously though, I don't know what makes a perfect pizza for me, it all depends on what I'm craving.
A nice thick crust, no cheese. I like my pizza naked. And of course MUSHROOMS!
Stuffed crust, lot's of sauce, extra cheese, and generous amount of toppings.
Spinach and ricotta, anything veggie.
i love round table. i prefer fresh, handmade on the spot. toppings matter too, nothing is ever bad on a pizza unless its anchovies.
Thick, saucy, LOTS of meat, and piping hot. That's the best kind I've EVER had.
We get frozen crusts from Sam's Club for homemade pizza.
I like ground beef, but I'm also a fan of green peppers, onions, and just plain cheese.
As far as companies, I like Pizza Hut, Papa John's, and East of Chicago.
I like all types of crust.
Toppings...I like meat, pineapple, cheese........and not much else..
Lots and lots of cheese.
i don't like too much crust, but i love lots of sauce, cheese, pepperoni, sausage, ham, and lots veggies like onions, green peppers, olives, pineapple and tomatoes.
