Daily Q: What Foods Won't You Try Making at Home?
I refuse to make my own pizza. I've done it before, and the process is simple enough, but I know I'll never be able to create anything near the foldable, cheesy goodness I can find on any New York City block. Even if I could get the dough just right and learn how to toss the right way, my puny little oven can't stand up to a pizza parlor's real deal. Best leave this one to the experts.
What foods do you refuse to make at home?

On the contrary, I love making pizza at home. :)
I think it's nice making your own pizza, especially if you have an oven that can get really hot; and you use bricks in that oven to keep a nice even, steady temperature. I have a particularly psychotic oven that can get up near 700 degrees, and even if not, you can still do it in the grill with a good pizza stone and (again) some bricks.
I think it's nice making your own pizza because you can do combinations that most pizza places don't make; and you can use as much or as less topping as you want.
For example:
I like doing a Chinese Roast Duck Pizza with Hoisin sauce on Bechamel, with Scallions and thin-sliced Shiitake mushrooms, and a layer of melted Gruyere with hearty amounts of Parmigiano Reggiano.
Another one I like doing is a simple Flatbread PIzza with Home-smoked Thick-cut (1cm thick) Kiawe Bacon, seared on the outside, tender on the inside, Rosemary, Garlic, Olive Oil, Artichoke Hearts, Thick Fresh Mozzarella slices and Basil Chiffonade.
I have a real fear of doing any kind of "real" baking. I got a bread machine for Christmas last year so I've been playing with it, but I'm afraid of the whole perfect-measurements-wait-rise-don't-overmix-wait-rise-bake process. It seems too easy to mess up.
But my most adventurous recent cooking endeavor has been this chicken curry recipe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-CZY95VXbc
I loved the guy in the video's personality, and the curry looked delicious (and since I have an Indian friend I've been exposed more and more to that style of cooking, I felt a little more comfortable trying it). It came out great, and I was really proud!
I love to cook, and can cook almost anything including dishes I don't eat.
The ONE thing I can't cook at home is tofu, I made it once and got very sick. I don't know if it was bad or I did something wrong but after that I refuse to mess with it at home. It's not something I eat much of anyway, but I will eat products made of it that all I have to do is heat up or if it is from a restaurant.
I wouldn't cook seafood because of the smell. That pizza looks delicious.
I don't think I'd ever try cooking any meat or anything meat related. While I love 'em, I'd have that nagging fear of having not cooked it properly bothering me. I'll just avoid that mess altogether and stick to something that won't make me sick if cooked improperly.
I once tried to make pizza and it turned out crap it tasted too doughy and too much tomato sauce.
I'm not making any pizza of my own either... no worries. You've got lots of company there!
homemade pizza isn't too difficult
i wouldn't make panna cotta at home though. getting that consistency just right is tough :<
anything where cooking meat is involved. i'm too afraid i might undercook something and get someone (or myself) sick >.<
anything that requires lots of oil and to be deep fried. it's such a hassle to clean up afterward. and good results are not always achievable, with the danger of being burned by flying bits of cooked food or oil.
That looks good, but I prefer Raw Pizza! -Jacob
Marinated, Grilled Artichoke Hearts because they NEVER turn out the way they turn on out italian restaurants!!!
I HATE burgers off of the grill at home. I know, call me crazy.
i tried to make pizza and i had too many ingredients on top that it sort of overflows and you cant even see the dought under it. it didnt look like the pizzas from restaurant.
hmm i think i will try to cook anything.. but currently i dont think i will try fish, they look scary..
really? i think my homemade pizza is excellent! you could just buy the frozen or refridged dough & make everything else yourself. i always buy my dough from a really good, expensive store though.
i will try anything as long as it doesn't leave my kitchen full of oil & smoke or possible cause burns on my skin.
@jackie9714_rocks@xanga - here's a tip: buy a baking stone, heat it up in the oven. then bake one side of your dough just for a little bit. flip it over. add your ingredients. then bake completely.
I love making foods at home! So far I've tried pizza, bread, crab sticks, fries, funnel cakes, and their weird german pancake thingy. I don't think it isn't anything I won't try.
