Bacon in a Cookie? Oh, It's Been Done...
You love breakfast. You love cookies. So why have they been kept separate for so long?
They join forces in one whopper of a cookie for my latest feature on Serious Eats: the Bacon, Cereal, and Orange Juice Breakfast Cookie! Each of these monster cookies contains a trifecta of deliciousness, balancing sweet and savory with plenty of butter on top.
Worth waking up for in the morning, or have I made you want to vomit into your coffee? Either way, it's an interesting recipe, based on one that I found in a 1980s cookie cookbook! Here's the full recipe:Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, room temperature
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons thawed frozen orange juice concentrate
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
6 strips bacon or veggie bacon, cooked very crisp, drained and crumbled (I used veggie bacon and it worked just fine)
1/2 cup Grape-NutsProcedure:
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a medium bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, orange juice concentrate and peel, until light and fluffy. Add flour and baking powder, beating until well blended.
3. Stir in bacon and cereal, stirring only until incorporated.
4. Using an ice cream scoop (I used a big one), drop 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets.
5. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until edges are golden. Remove cookies from sheets while still warm and cool on racks.

Im scared, but honestly, as much as I watch bobby flay, Im sure it would taste good...
..bobby flay doesnt really bake too much though..
SO disgusting. Blehh!
This makes sense. I can taste this, and it tastes good. Yet at the same time, it's very disturbing.
Lol. Hmm sounds good up until the bacon part but I don't think bacon should affect the taste too much. Especially since it is crisped and crumbled. The bacon will probably add more texture and a little smokiness to the cookies. I'm pretty sure someone here is guilty of stuff their face with cereal, bacon, and orange juice all in their mouth at once. It will taste something like that except in a cookie form.
Why....why.....WHY
I'm not sure I would eat that..
Maybe it's not bad, I'd take a bite.
no wonder people are fat. bacon cookies.
Hmm. I'd try it. I'd probably use a different cereal, though. Like...Cap'n Crunch.
i don't understand why the world is so obsessed with bacon...
been there, baked that, added green food coloring too, to really make people look twice. i'd find my blog entry about it if i weren't so lazy.
Haha...sounds gross... i'm sure that i'd take a bite anyway due to curiosity...
Also, why does bacon = breakfast? It's not so great, and i know it's not good for you... x.x
Eh, gross. No thanks.
Interesting. :)
yuck. no...a million no's wouldn;t do the trick.
just made them. not sure how i feel about them. they taste exactly like you'd expect them to, I'm just not sure that's necessarily a good thing.
As if cookies weren't fattening enough already. I think I'll pass.
i wanna try :S
