  • A Fruity Alternative to Ice Cubes

I came by this after getting really fed up with weak juice that gets even weaker tasting thanks to melting ice cubes. Instead of using ice cubes to cool down your juices and lemonades, try a delicious (and edible!) alternative.

A lot of cook books that provide drink recipes will encourage you to make ice rings for punch bowls that include fruit slices inside the ice itself, but I've found it's a lot more fun and easier to skip the ice all together. Frozen fruit fulfills the same purpose as ice cubes when dropped in your drink, keeping your drink nice and cold up until the time the fruit thaws.Better yet, your juice won't become watered down from the melting ice, and the flavor gets a little stronger thanks to the fruit floating in your glass. My favorite part is eating the fruit when you're finished with the beverage.

    • To get the tastiest results, it's best to pick fruits that go well with the drink you're having. Some suggestions:
    • Fruit punch goes well with cherries, strawberries, and raspberries.
    • Lemonades or limeades are great not only with lemons and limes, but also strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.
    • With larger fruits like limes, lemons, and sometimes strawberries, it's best to use slices; while with smaller fruits, such as berries, the whole fruit will work just fine.
    • From my experience, apple slices don't freeze too well.

Other than that, it's up to what flavor combinations you enjoy. If you can make it work, go for it!
