  • Making Monkey Bread: Recipe in Pictures

Today, I made monkey bread after work. If you've ever been to McDonald's, they have this thing called Cinnamon Melts, which is pretty much the same thing as monkey bread. Anyway, it's horribly delicious and deceptively easy.

    First, biscuits.

You start out with buttermilk biscuits (the small kind). I always jump and scream so much when opening these stupid biscuit cans! Ugh. I hate them.

There's an opened can. Notice all the wrapper is gone. That's because it said to peel in the direction of the arrow, so I did, but it was a dud. Now, that whole time I'm super freaked out it's going to pop at any second. So I'm half disappointed, half relieved that it doesn't. But then I have to push at the seam and then twist it until it pops and I nearly scream my head off. I did jump and yelp a little, though.

    Then, I separated the biscuits.
    And cut them into quarters.
    Next, sugar and cinnamon together.

    Then, all shaken up.

    Beautiful.

Then, the biscuit pieces go into that fabulous mixture.

Shake shake shake it all up.

Ahhh. Wonderfully coated biscuit pieces. I heard a foreign woman call it "bis-kwit" once. It was very cute, not to mention linguistically thoughtful, and that's how it's spelled, so why not?

Okay, so these little biskwit pieces have to stick together somehow because now they're all coated in cinnamony sugar and no longer annoyingly sticky. This is where melted butter comes into play.

    Add a little brown sugar.

And pour over the biscuit pieces.

Pop it in the oven, and....

Tada! Monkey bread. Doesn't it look delicious? My little brother said it looked like brains (which I guess it kind of does), but it sure doesn't taste like it.

Have you ever had or made monkey bread before? What do you add to your recipe?
