A while back,
I wrote a piece about how Sonic's arrival in a town near to me created a crazy traffic situation and made people park in a nearby animal shelter and walk over. Well, apparently, the allure of Sonic's drive-in goodness is so strong people will risk killing a police officer over it.
The full story is
here. A pertinent excerpt from the article:
"One customer, P.J. Montevirgen, 29, of Hackensack said he had to circle up and down the highway to try and get a spot, and saw an Acura SUV trying to get a spot and a police officer telling the driver the lot was full. The Acura driver suddenly floored his vehicle in front of the officer, jerked to the left, and disappeared behind some car. Moments later, Montevirgen said, he heard a crash."While I don't have the Community News story to verify it, I seem to recall that the cop was dragged for some time by the Acura, and that he is currently in critical condition.
OK, I get it, Sonic is awesome. Their drinks are delicious. Still, things like this shouldn't happen. A drive-in food chain should not be the grounds for possible vehicular manslaughter. I don't know about you, but I find this whole situation very troubling.
Have you ever heard of a traffic incident such as this involving a fast food restaurant or other dining establishment?

I love their drinks!! =)
Yom.
That's scary and pretty sad that people steep this low just for fast food quality food. What have people become these days?!?!
Darn it, Happy Hour is over. I was just about ready to drive 60mph to get there in time.
We have no Sonic here in my country. But hurting someone over food, which isn't scarce anyway, is just crazy.
That picture...yum.
I don't understand what's so great about Sonic... The food's alright. Not amazing, but not horrible. Ok, so you park your car, and someone brings you your food, and you sit and eat in your car. uhmm... yeah, I LOOOVE the smell of ketchup spilled all over my seats which won't come out...
Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the place, but I don't understand the hype...
Wow, I hope it doesn't happen it arrives here, that's crazy, but hey they don't have Sonic in most places and yet they give their commercials, we hear from others who are lucky to have one where they live, so of course it looks absolutely delicious and it's exciting when something you've wanted to try for a long time finally comes to town. I really can't wait to try Sonic!!
I hope the acura driver fries!
I don't get it. Sonic is not that great. Not thier drinks, not thier fries, not thier tater tots, and certainly not anything else on thier menu. I ate there when I was pregnant b/c I could get giant shakes for cheaper than other places in town, but even then I wouldn't have hurt anyone over it.
mmm...sonic...I'm starving!
Wait, the policeman was from Hackensack? ...You mean there's a Sonic in North Jersey and I didn't know about it?
This reminds me of that incident at a Walmart or a Target awhile ago, when...I don't even remember what it was, but it was the release of a book or a game or something, and one of the people working there got run over by a stampede of people. It's just really sad when you hear about stuff like this.
This post is missing your awesome picture by Rt 17 and how we walked over to Sonic. Maniacs for the SONIC CRAZE!
We got a Sonic recently too, but nothing like that has happened. That's awful.
The closest Sonic to me is like.. 17 miles away, I think. I wish I could go.
@flashbulb100w@xanga - Only in America, right? LOL

We have several Sonics around here. None of them are really full or busy unless it's a holiday or some promotion thing. *shrug*
That is really really pathetic. The Sonic drive-in was worth injuring, possibly killing an officer?
Nothing like that has happened here, but we have a sonic on almost every corner, so people know if one's full, they can drive a couple more miles and get to another one.
That's insane. I've never heard anything like that. There was a woman here who called 911 because McDonald's didn't have any chicken nuggets, but that's pretty much the craziest thing I've ever heard of happening at a fast food place.
They closed down the Sonic here. I'm still sad and it's been closed for almost a year...
i live in ma and the nearest sonic is in nj...ahh i wanna try it!
what a fatty :T killl to get fast food?
i've never tried sonic before... is it really worth that?
I love sonic !!!
I don't see what is so great about Sonic, and especially not great enough to kill someone over it. If you go during Happy Hours, then their drinks are awesome simply because of the price. But other than that, screw it.
I'd also like to say that I think the way the four Sonic's that I have seen are set up very stupid like. The parking is ridiculous with the drive thru and just asking for tons of accidents.
I've never witnessed people getting so hyped up over a resturant, but I have watched kids get into fist fights over Pokemon cards and adults over Furbies & Tickle Me Elmo's and gas the day of 9-11.
I also heard the story of the door-repair man at Wal*Mart who was trampled on Black Friday last year which is about the most crazy and sad thing I've ever heard.
