When The Economy's Tough, There's McDonald's
photo from steve-brandon
As the media claims, the economy continues to be in a recession. Does this persuade people in pulling out their good ol' credit cards and green-faced presidents on paper? Knowing that the price of goods and services have declined over the duration of the recession, the answer is undoubtedly no. One of America's prominent characteristics is consumerism. People love to buy things, ranging from a couch with a built-in toilet to a talking Parrot. Lets not also leave out *drum rolls* fast food! America's constantly on clockwork; people scramble to their destinations roughly on a daily basis. Though they may seem exceptionally occupied in performing daily tasks, people manage to take the time out to gorge themselves with hearty (pun intended) goodness. McDonald's is more than likely to be one of their choices on the menu.
How can we possibly resist McDonald's weapon, the Dollar Menu? It's difficult, I know. The Dollar Menu offers a big bang for your buck. Moreover, if you were to compare it's food item prices to other fast food restaurants, then you'd unhesitantly turn your Hyundai around and back to McDonald's and splurge yourself with its' golden list of fatty concoctions. I'm unashamed for I paid a visit to a local McDonald's earlier yesterday afternoon and ordered two McDoubles and two apple pies. At first, I almost spent well over $5.00 at Taco Bell. It struck me immediately, "Wait a minute, I can get a meal at McDonald's which is under $4.00 and is more filling!" Taco Bell's products and McDonald's are incomparable. McDonald's food items contain far more calories along with a wide array of other nutrients, which these products contain a considerably high percentage of. You can easily see this for yourself by accessing Taco Bell and Mcdonald's main websites.
Regardless of the unpleasant "this job's bull" attitude of employees that join the ranks of Ronald McDonald's army, his Dollar Menus always welcoming those who are on the go and try to maintain a tight grip on their wallets. True that the food opens the door to a heart attack or case of the "runs." However, food is food and McDonald's offers food that's packed with energy, is good, and beneficial for those who are on a budget. You can't go wrong.
Have you looked at fast food differently because of the recession?

Blah, I hate McD's.
I just eat my mom's food =D
I like to get the mcdonald's sweet tea. It's pretty cheap for such a large drink :D
Seems like every time the country falls deeper into recession McDonald's comes out with a brand new sandwich.
Oh, ew. That's disgusting. I'd rather make my own food (in larger portions). If I'm forced to go to McDonald's I'll just get some water or something. It's easy for me because my school sells food that's cheap but healthy (fruit) and I have a job, and parents.
I don't go to fast food very often, but the grilled chicken wrap at McD's is a decent deal.
Eating fast food, no matter what the price is extremely bad for you. I havent touched fast food in 6 years and think if more people made all their meals at home theyd be healthier and happier. Price isnt the issue.
Um....no. I don't care how much it costs me, I will eat wholesome, healthy foods. To me, my physical and emotional health are more important than my monetary health.
I love to eat it because, well, its mc'ds and you can get addicted to it. but then after you eat it you feel absolutely horrible and you feel like yur insides are going to explode- that should be a sign not to eat that crap.
Super size me - great movie about why you SHOULDNT EVER EAT mcdonalds.
@JustAGirl818@xanga - ...Constantly...
I only really care for their breakfast, besides that, I'm good.
When the economy's tough, there is also walking around costco and grabbing samples. Slightly healthier and free. Haha.
Totally done it. I'm ashamed. :[
Well the only thing I like there are the grilled chiken sandwiches and thoose are overpriced. I'd go to taco bell any day of the week over McD's
@JustAGirl818@xanga - good movie, but ive never had a withdrawl from fast food or felt sick from it. =P I think that may have been because he ate it all 3 courses of the day.
If I want a delicious lunch/dinner fast, I'll take a stop at Subway and get a veggie delite sub for about $3. I haven't had proper "fast food" in... months. I can make better, healthier food at home.
Hasn't anyone seen that video with the guy showing McDonalds food decomposing? Probably not, because they didn't decompose after weeks. You can tell that its unnatural just from that video. Its on YouTube.
I'll be honest I love the chicken nuggets they have =]
To get full per meal at mcd would be about 2 dollars and some change if you go with the dollar menu, so if you eat mcd the entire week, that would be 6 dollars per day, x 7 is 42 dollars. I think with 28 dollars I can buy a week's grocery. Yeah, I might eat the same thing again for a couple of meals because I would cook in large protions and put it in the fridge, but I love my own cooking.
I think people just don't understand the art of Chinese cooking. Little protein, little veggies, lots of rice.
$15 - 20lbs of jasmine rice - which lasts more than just one week
$6 - chicken and pork
$6 - veggies
@nicoleantonia@xanga - You must have a good subway in your neighborhood.
...that's a nice McDonald's :]
@JustAGirl818@xanga - supersized me is a good movie, but I think there were other three movies that didn't get as much publicity and got lost in the mix.
Fast Food Nation, Food Inc, and Killer at Large.
Killer at Large is similar to Food Inc, and most people said Food Inc is better than Killer at Large, so I would just leave at that.
Fast Food Nation is not a documentry about fast food. The movie is based on real stories of the source of fast food, about it's workers, cows, and the company it self.
That's McDonald's for you. They know how to make business.
The movie Super Size Me just made me want McDonald's BAD.
I went and got some nuggets when we were done watching it.No, I haven't changed my ideas significantly about what food is because of the recession. I still enjoy the taco bell- because it actually approaches the closest what a treat can be at the same time being nutritionally allowable. I learned how to make maki (roll sushi) and miso soup of Japanese cultural cuisine, a variety of curried thises or thats of the Indian cultural cuisines set plus the americanized chinese curry chicken. the Native American stuffed pumpkin, West African-esque Egussi Soup, The Mediterranian area lentil soup salads with olives and colors, and hummus along with fresh baked pita bread or flatbreads, I learned a few cooking techniques that begin to open regional American Cuisines like Creole and Cajun. I've been open and found someone whome made me the best homemade chicken and broccoli (Americanized Chinese style) I've ever had for less than $1 a serving. I've developed a deeping appreciation ofhow to enjoy more more often than just a stomp 2 blocks over to a fast food joint.
Even after SUPERSIZE ME, I'm still a fan of McDonalds. As long as its a clean one. Love their dollar menu!
I'm always at mcdonald's.
