Weird Recipe of the Day: Jello Mixed Vegetable Pie
Vintage recipes are decidedly less health-conscious than those of today. Organic ingredients, no trans fat, whole grains: none of these current food trends were paid much attention in the 50's and 60's. But apparently, some recipes from decades past were also less attuned to one key factor: taste.
That's the only way I can explain the Pie Plate Salad, an unappetizing combination of...wait for it... lemon Jello and canned mixed vegetables.
Ugh. Here's the recipe:
At first I thought this "pie" (I'm sorry, yummy pies everywhere) had a crust, making this sort of quiche. But no, it's simply a can of mixed vegetables--you know, the ones with cube-shaped carrots, corn, lima beans and peas--suspended in lemon gelatin. The white garnish you see in the ad? Tartar sauce.
Mmmm. This is like the Jello salad they would serve in hell. For whimsy's sake, several brave chefs on the Internet have actually cooked this ominous pie:
It doesn't look good, does it? No, it doesn't.
Would you try this "pie"?

I feel nauseous... literally... I hate Jell-O, period... but this is a new level of Jell-O hell. Amazing... who would MAKE this crap?!?!? (Well, apparently some people did ... it's amazing they lived to tell the tale.)
No.
why would you do that? omg ew...
hehehe ewwwwww
looks like... refrigerated soup, in a way.
It looks like congealed condensed vegetable soup. Definitely would never eat this.
No, I hate vegetables and jell-o together. Dx
I don't even have words for this. I'm just laughing.
i don't know, i kinda want to try it
i would never try that ever lol but only becauseee i think jello doesn't go ok with anything..i like it buttt byitself
Cold soup, cold veggies, with a jello texture. I'll try it just so I can tell the world how wrong of an idea it is.
@bamxocandy@xanga - Actually, jello can go very well with a special someone. ;)
@Neowind@xanga - haa very truee but with food i think jello can stay without little peices of something in it lol
@bamxocandy@xanga - I agree with what you're saying, just felt like being silly xP
@Neowind@xanga - ha thats ok it put a smile on my face soo mission accomplished :)
no, i love jello too much to watch it get ruined like that
@bamxocandy@xanga - Awh, glad I put a smile on your face. =)
I would try it, but it would be a lot easier to try it if they could make it look better.
no vegetable pie already sounds gross
Part of me says no, the other part of me says that if someone acutally made it and everyone was going to try, count me in!
...tarter sauce is better than what I thought it was...mayonaise.
umm this doesn't sound good..
EW
@Syaoronsangel@xanga - not by much.
i think if you heat it up it will turn into veg soup, and i would eat it if i can heat it up
i would not eat a veggie jelly mold unless i am forced to
