Yeah, that's right. Not all "health foods" are actually healthy. Some of the most popular trends today, like frozen yogurt (it's like the new Starbucks), are severely unhealthy for you. The article can be found
here; I just highlighted the main points.
The Baked Potato - "It’s not fried, and it’s a vegetable then it must be healthy. In actuality, potatoes are pure starch and have almost no nutritional value. Even plain they’re awful for you. Once you start adding bacon bits, sour cream, butter, and all that other junk, they quickly become the worst possible thing you could eat."
Diet Soda - Diet soda isn’t good for you. Most of the ingredients involve chemicals and water, some of which are proven to cause cancer. "Not only that, but there’s the caffeine. Caffeine is actually very good for you in small doses. However, caffeine from soda or coffee gets released all at once and is a higher dosage."
Frozen Yogurt - Its very popular where I live. You can find a frozen yogurt place on every corner. But many forget that frozen yogurt is just sugar. It may have less fat than ice cream, I'm not sure, but even if it does have less fat, you're still consuming crazy amounts of sugar.
Salad - "Salad can be healthy. It usually isn’t. Lettuce is good for you, but is also fairly insignificant. It’s mostly just fiber, water, and low concentrations of vitamins. Most people slather their salad in dressing, which is almost never good for you. Just because a meal has lettuce in it doesn’t mean that it’s good for you. 80% of the calories in any salad are probably from the dressing. The only dressing that’s good for you is olive oil with a little bit of lemon juice or vinegar."
The rest of the list includes juice, pretzels/crackers, and energy bars. Can you say delicious?

A lot of that is actually true. I'm not a potato person. I abstain completely from soft drinks. There are several more salad dressings however that are perfectly harmless....one of my favorites being rice wine vinegar (20 cals per 2 tbsp).
Juice is pretty sugary. Don't drink it unless it's V8 veggie juice (70 cals per 12-ounce serving). Frozen yogurt and I don't get along, as I'm lactose intolerant. Haha.
The only dressing I ever eat on salad is olive oil with vinegar. lol.
The only time I have Caesar is when I go out somewhere (and thats only a maybe).I disagree with potatoes:
"Potatoes are tough and durable, store well, and have an impressive nutritional content including being a rich source of fiber, potassium and vitamin C. Like other fruits and vegetables, potatoes are a low calorie food and are free of fat, cholesterol, and sodium."
Although they don't necessarily promote that much health, it's much better to consume these filling foods versus french fries. Same goes with the salad.
Bah! I still love potatoes!
The salad one makes me sad =(
Then there are some surprisingly healthy things: beer, wine, whiskey, (any alcoholic beverage that doesn't use sugary mixers).
i still think potatoes are healthy, not the healthiest but not bad (but then im a runner so i need my carbs)
i agree with pretty much everything else except for energy bars - some of them are quick filling and nutritional for times when you don't have the time to eat a sit down lunch (nature valley fiber bars)
i hate it when i go out and they have already put the dressing on my salad even though i asked for it to be on the side -i hate salad dressing; only thing i'll use is freshly squeezed lemon juice
ugh, i still love froyo though :(
@makemethin_x3@xanga - The purpose of this is to make people know that consuming a lot of these is not as healthy as one may think. Of course if you compare and contrast it alongside many other options it is better, but that's not the point of it. I guess the title is a bit too dramatic.. -ish.
@juliebeanss@xanga - Yeah potatoes surprised me, oh well I don't eat them that often anyways. =)
@doLc3@xanga - Yeah ouch, I don't usually like Olive Oil as a dressing. Boooo.
i eat salad with bbq sauce for dressing!
but.. it's pinkberry... and they recently added new flavors!!.. =/
Of course everything's unhealthy when you load it with a bunch of unnecessary fat and sugar.
I hate that this post implies calories (like with juice) are unhealthy for you. You need calories to live. Just don't overdo it. And 100% juice is fine; it provides vitamins and antioxidants. Don't get that loaded-with-sugar "juice", and you'll be all set.
I love the dressing on Lebanese and fattoush salads. It's healthy and packs more flavor (like with sumac berries :D).
Improperly booked baked potatoes can also lead to botulism as well, which is very harmful.
This article is a little off. Plain potatoes DO have nutritional value, although they are starchy. Potatoes are a good source of fibre, and they're skins are also good for you. Potatoes also contain Vitamin C.
Not to say we should pig out on chips and crisps, though.
*their
still eat it..once in a while..
I don't like this at all, you obviously don't know anything about food by claiming potatoes have no nutritional value. LOOK IT UP. You're kind of retarded.
Okay, salads? I mean, salads don't consist of ONLY lettuce. I mean, what about tomatoes? and onions? and chickpeas? I mean, I don't know about you but everyone that I know who tries to diet, adds salads as part of their meals....maybe re-read this and think it over. Maybe just delete this. I don't know, do something.
I am not a big potato fan but I definitely love my sweet potato
and I don't drink pop or eat yogurt anyway
for salad i just eat mine plain without dressing but I do throw in some walnut for some fat
you lie about froyo :*( it doesnt have lots of sugar...if you pick the non-sugar ones. i know this really great froyo place but im not going to say cause its my favorite and i dont like to share *lol* so ha.
Diet pop causes cancer... so you're suggesting cancer is bad for you? Let's not jump to conclusions.
Argh!! OMG!! Enough already with demonizing food!!
It's about moderation. You can have a perfectly healthy diet with everything on this list, if you do so in moderation! Oh, and yeah, encourage people to get off their asses and exercise. Because that's the problem. We eat without portion control or balance (or the aforementioned moderation) and then we sit on our butts in front of the tv or computer and all those calories that we need to survive just sit there and turn into fat! What solves that? Oh, wait, MODERATION AND EXERCISE!
Food is supposed to be fun. It's supposed to be a pleasure. ireallylikefood.com is supposed to celebrate food. If I wanted to see how I'm supposed to be healthy, I would be reading whatever it is that Xanga offers for healthy eaters.
I love it when people order chicken Caesar salads with dressing and croutons. Probably one of the worse things you could eat.
delicious ?^^
what's wrong with pretzels and plain wheat crackers??
for salad i usually eat it plain or just dip the fork in dressing on the side, usually a vinaigrette :P
i thought potatoes have a good amount of pottasium??
