Acquiring the Taste of Beer?
My husband loves beer, not to get drunk, but loves the taste as well. I haven't been able to enjoy a glass of beer with him because I don't like the taste. He tells me that everyone has to acquire the taste for it, even him. Do you like the taste of beer? Did you have to acquire the taste for it? And how long did it take you to like it?

i think its a little bit about your genetic code.
I would agree...over the past few years I've aquired a palate for a really good Cold Brew!
Beer is supposed to taste like you're drinking your own piss when you first start drinking it. LOL
I guess for some people, after a while you get used to the taste. I like beer better if I chug it... Or squeeze some lime and lemon in it. I guess that's a Texas thing though. :)
I try and I try, but I just can't seem to gain that taste for beer. For me, I can't seem to get use to that aftertaste.
It is a bit of an acquired taste, and I'll be honest, the reason so many Americans hate beer is they've never had good beer. Bud, Coors, Miller, etc. are NOT good beer. I'm a beer drinker and I can't fucking stand those beers. Get yourself a good brew, such as Samuel Adams, Guinness, Smithwick's, or something else with a little more character and flavor if you truly want to appreciate beer.
some beers taste better than others (i totally agree with the poster above)... i've always thought that beer smelled like pee but then i had a sip of a corona and i liked it. samuel adams wasn't too bad either.
its an acquired taste. I still don't like it.
I'm not a big fan of beer, but I must say, drink enough of it and you get a good case of drunk!
I love beer. It took me a bit to acquire the taste for it, but once you experiment around enough, you can find the right beer(s) for you.
I've been drinking since age 14. (Young, I know. Don't judge me.)
It's been eight years, and never have I "acquired the taste for beer." Ughhh. I still find it nasty.
Forget about acquiring the taste, when there is so much other alcohol out there with a better taste, lol. I used to hate wine, until I found one I love. Give me a margarita any day, or a daquari. Beer? Forget it!
@Annette33@xanga - LOL, and I can't stand mixed drinks. Go figure
Wine is OK with Italian. I do beer and Scotch whiskey. LOL.
@teddynsnoopy@xanga - Thanks for agreeing with me. So what are some of your favorite beers?
i don't like the taste of most beers.
i don't like beer. i don't even like fizzy pop, so the bitter taste to it is so much worse. my bf does, and i think i'm getting a little used to it because he makes me try every beer he gets. i still don't think i can down a bottle though.. however, fruity beers are okay.
try strawberry fruli - it's a belgian beer with real strawberry juice =)@purplepanda27@xanga - If you like fruit beers, there are a few nice ones from Samuel Adams as well: Blackberry Witbier, Cherry Wheat, and Cranberry Lambic.
I would say try anything from a craft brewery or some of the well established international styles. Most mass market beers are made with corn or rice adjuncts which effectively remove flavour, which leaves you with a can or bottle of flavourless bitter, fizzy malted drink. I would personally suggest Chimay (a medium rich Abbey Dubbel with a hint of fruity sweetness and clove) or if you are daring, a German Rauchbier (smoked malt gives you a real dense smoky flavour...like drinking bacon!!)
I love beer! : ) Especially Asian beer like Sapporo and Kirin (new favorite).. Tiger beer is pretty awesome too! However, I hate Heineken in the US, they brew it weird.
beer's okay, it's like eating supreme pizzas with all the weird toppings like green bell peppers or eating tomatoes. it's just weird to have it but sometimes you just get used to it after a certain amount of time.
I hate the taste. I don't see myself ever liking it.
it's acquired. i feel in love with stout too. even my guy friends can't handle it. but it only happened cuz my friend bought me a 24 of guinness. and no one liked it so i had to finish it. at first, i got drunk with it. so i could finish it quicker. but then i just got used to it and absolutely love it now. i don't like the lighter stuff that much. but yeah.
I don't really like beer...it tastes way too yeasty to me. Like moldy bread
I can,.however, enjoy a Guinness stout every now and again. But that's the only beer I've ever found that I can stomach.
@lovemonkeyy@xanga - Corona Extra + lime = fun, yes? :]
I used to despise beer...then one weekend I got drunk 3 nights in a row. Each night I would get really buzzed off something else (ie vodka) then switch to beer.
After that weekend I didn't mind the taste of beer.
And now I've grown to love it!
Not sure if that's really a good way of getting into beer drinking, or if it would be effective for anyone else, haha.
I hate beer.
Don't go for the cheap, flat, warm beer. It takes time to acquire the taste, but I like Heinekein and Guinness
