Happy Canada D'eh!! =]
As Canadians, we got to represent! Canada's confederation date is officially March 29, 1867. Today is Canada's 142nd birthday!!! But why do we celebrate on July 1st? According to my 10th grade social studies teacher...the weather is better (Canadian winters suck) and we want to up show Americans before July 4. C'est vrai?
In my 2nd year, I took a course called "Cultural Aspects of Foods". My term paper's subject was to write specifically about a Canadian food. This was a lot harder to write than one would think! Because what is Canadian? We are a multicultural country. A large percentage of the population are immigrants, people who are not born in Canada. We are a country of diversity and we celebrate our differences! So what is "Canadian" food? This is what I came up with for my essay!
Maple Syrup

No, we don't smother all of our foods in maple syrup. Maybe just pancakes and waffles! But more than 80% of the world's maple syrup is produced in Canada. Our flag does have the maple leaf..
Salmon
Salmon represents the west coast because of the BC salmon. I guess lobster is more of something representing the east coast! Many other countries also have an abundant supply of wild salmon, so you can't say it's specifically Canadian. But smoked salmon is very common in tourist gift shops in Vancouver!
Poutine
French fries, cheese curds, and hot gravy melting the cheese into one delicious massive gooey mess? Heaven! Poutine originated from Quebec. Kachino sent me this link for the best poutines in Quebec! He also sent me this one: http://thisiswhyyourefat.com/ Hmm...
Happy Canada D'eh everyone!

You forgot ice hockey and IMAX ;)
Very delicious food, I suggest you try food in Spain also especially the tapas. Almost all Barcelona Spain hotels serve Spanish cuisine.
poutine is the best thing on earth.
did you know new york fries originated from ontario, instead of new york? it blows my mind.
The french fries and cheese curds sound all right, but I think nacho cheese sauce would be a better topping.
I wish I had known about Poutine 10 days ago... I would have made plans to eat it while I was in Canada. That sounds awesome!
