Joe Jonas Loves Pinkberry, So You Should Too
There are two things relevant to this post I don't fully understand: why exactly the Jonas Brothers are so popular, and what exactly fascinates people with regard to Pinkberry. Let me begin with saying I had no idea what a Pinkberry was until a few nights ago; for all I knew, it was one of those newfangled electronic devices of which the kids are so fond. If you are unaware, though, it is an overpriced "frozen yogurt" chain that prides itself on being healthier than ice cream.
People, like my friend Monica, claim to love this chain. I tried my first cup visiting her and her fiancé in New York the other night, and, I don't know, I guess I just don't get it. It was tasty enough, but a little tart and certainly not worth $5. Ever the inquisitive chap, I did some research (headed straight to Wikipedia), trying to find out from whence this addicting yogurt came and how it wound up in my metropolitan area. Amidst my searching, I came across this article on how the Jonas Brothers love Pinkberry.
While I think Monica is a bit old to be swayed by the charms of the Jonases, maybe the audience has something to do with it. When we went to Pinkberry, people over the age of 30 were in the minority. The clientele was mostly young, well-dressed individuals paying with credit cards. The essence of Pinkberry's popularity therefore seems to lie in its being trendy (read: for cool, popular people, necessitating the relatively high costs). So who knows if Pinkberry will be a lasting fixture in our American dietary landscape? I guess time will have to tell, and yogurt will have to sell.
Are you a fan of Pinkberry? What draws or doesn't draw you to their yogurt?

Never heard of them before.
Nope, it is overpriced, I am a fan of self serve yogurt places. Preferably at 30 cents an oz!
never tried pinkberry, i go to yogurt world for a hangout (my friends work there) and for good frozen yogurt. (it's like the asian hangout haha)
but mm your picture looks tasty. i love that you write about food.yogurt world is like 3x cents an ounce i think? and samples are freeeeee!
3 lesbians that play awful music aren't going to tear me away from my cheap, cheap Dairy Queen.
Not a fan of the tart yogurt craze...or the Jonas Brothers for that matter.
@flyingshuttershades@xanga - i lol'd
people arent "in love" with pinkberry, they're in love with the fame and popularity of knowing they went to pinkberry and letting everybody else know they've been to pinkberry so people wont think you're a loser cause you've never been to pinkberry?!?!?! :O hahaha. case closed.
anyways, pinkberry is so overrated (dont know how many times i've said that) and even though im half korean, i still say pb is orverrated. people dont know authenticity and the real deal if it spanked them in the face. in other words, "the people" have no taste. theres better.
@XAngelExpress31X@xanga - try tutti frutti.
@d0llh0use@xanga - what does being half korean have to do with anything? because pinkberry was started by 2 korean people? idk not really seeing the relevance
im a fan of pinkberry (and red mango) just cause i like the tart taste
@VegetariAnn@xanga - yeah. im just saying. what...i cant say im half korean??? :)
pinkberry is alright. i prefer yogurtland as the mecca of flavored froyo.
though Pinkberry is the so-called original, i do not think it is any better than all its new competitors.
yes i love fro-yo, I LOVE IT
no, i don't think Pinkberry's popularity has anything to do with the Jonas brothers, if anything, i think they are just jumping on the train, they are the ones who are riding on the coat tail of Pinkberry's success.
i think fro-yo is coming back because it has been re-invented, it's not the fro-yo from back then anymore, this time its tart, refreshing, and is being associated with fresh fruit and antioxidans like green tea flavored yogurt and blueberries for toppings (as seen in the pic in the post). this trend is also highly visually oriented, which is one big draw for me. duh, i know advertising for food is always going to be visual, but what i mean is that this fro-yo trend associates its product with vibrant colors, even the stores have to have trendy, colorful interior design. this seems to be true across the different chains that have popped up to compete with Pinkberry (Red Mango, Orange Tree, Yogurt Planet, Tutti Mellon, etc).
i hope this is a trend that will last. i like to think of this as the Asian counterpart to Jamba Juice--cold, sweet, and full of fresh fruit and goodness. just like how the milk tea chains Quickly and Tapioca Express are the counterpart to Starbucks. ALL HAIL ASIAN FRO-YO!!!! *throwing arms in the air and yelling
Never heard of it
I love Pinkberry b/c it's tart. I don't particularly like sweet frozen yogurt so it's just perfect. I also love the self-serve places just as much, though they're less popular. And besides, Pinkberry is closer :)
I would like to at least try Pinkberry, but Connecticut doesn't have any. Next time I go to New York City though, I plan on trying some to see what all the fuss is about :)
At any rate, it looks good.
I like Red Mango more than Pinkberry. Their yogurt tastes more yogurty.
I'm going to San Francisco in a week. Would they have it?
To be honest, I have never tried Pinkberry before. I have barely just heard about them a week ago or so. I'd like to try it one day though, just to see if it's "addicting".
pinkberry is ok. not my favorite, I would probably choose yogurtland over pinkberry any day. Its deliciously tart (I've always liked sour foods) and naturally sweet. Kind of melts on your tongue good. And on a second note, I've never really understood why the jonas bros were so popular either...
I love Pinkberry! I would eat it every day if I could.
I have never tried frozen yogurt :/
I'd like to try it! It looks so good with that fruit on top... :d
But there is no such thing as a "Pinkberry" in Georgia. So sad...
Never heard of it until recently. It doesn't sounds appealing so I will just stick with Rita's.
they don't have pinkberry around here but i've had other frozen yogurt. i'm guessing there's not much of a difference. it's nothing to fuss over.
pinkberry isn't anywhere near my state, so never tried it.
we have a local place called berri blends. 42 cents an ounce, self-serve with unlimited toppings. I think the fro-yo is rather good :)
