Can You Eat in Public Alone?
Do you feel awkward if you eat alone in public? How often do you eat alone in public?

I did once and a stranger invited himself to join me because "I shouldn't be left alone". So yeah, that was the first and last time, lol.
Eating in public in general is weird for me.
Totally serious, I think I'm crazy paranoid. When I eat in front of people, even friends, I have to cover my mouth or wait till none of them are looking to put anything in my mouth. I know I'm fat and I can just imagine them judging me for being fat and stuffing my mouth (yes, i know I'm crazy).
Eating alone is worse. When I eat alone I imagine everyone around me just thinking that "Of course the fat girl can't get any friends. She's so fat and gross. And then look at her eating. I bet she just can't stop eating. She has no will power. I bet she just ate something gross and fatty 10 minutes ago. I can't believe she's hungry again. No wonder she has no friends."
I know I sound psycho but that's what goes through my mind. It makes me so uncomfortable and I get embarrassed.
I could, but I'd rather have a friend eating with me. I hate eating alone at school though, cause I have this paranoia that everyone's talking trash about me when I'm eating alone, and thinks I'm some weird girl with no friends who's withdrawn from everybody.
@MangoWOW@xanga - =( im sure your friends or family wouldnt judge you for what you look like physically.. we're all conscious of ourselves in one way but dont put yourself down because of it =[
For me, eating alone makes me feel awkward cuz there always has to be a creeper staring you down thinking things you probably dont even wanna know. Eating in public.. in general, isn't so bad. I just mind my own business, eat my food, enjoy what I'm eating... and thats basically it =]
I prefer to not do it ... but if I do, I bring a book and hide behind it. That way, I'm not approached by random people...
I eat when I am hungry. I am very seldom alone but when I am it doesn't bother me to eat alone.
I don't find it awkward at all.
I have no problem eating alone,I have grown that comfortable with myself.I mostly do this in cafes or really small restaurants.I usually go with a novel or newspaper and eat while reading or get a window seat and eat whilst watching people pass by.
never ate in public alone before. but i think sometimes i'll be fine with it, sometimes i won't be fine with it. just imagine if a really nice looking guy looks my way and i look so unglam putting that food in.....
It's really weird for me. Even eating with just one other person in public comes off to me as a little uncomfortable. Then again, I am used to having at least 4/5 others out with me at any given time. That doesn't mean that I won't eat alone. It's just...awkward.
I don't mind eating alone at all. It's a nice time out for me, quality time with myself, doing something I love at my own pace. Sometimes I bring a book, sometimes I just futz on my phone, and sometimes I just eat. A little mastication meditation, anyone?
i live in a small town so even if i go alone, i end up having a conversation with one of the workers or someone else eating there.

Yeah it's awkward but then again most of the time it's because I am taking a lunch break from work so it's not really that weird at all.
I can go shopping, exercising, fast food alone but I could not eat out alone...in most circumstances. I could eat out alone if it were 1) the middle of the day and a cafe or deli. 2) not a packed place. 3) I was doing something like reading, studying, on my laptop. So pretty much only when im preoccupied and its a nice quiet place.

If I'm hungry and I'm by myself I'll eat alone. However, it can be a bit awkward in restaurants when you're waiting for the food to come.
It doesn't bother me. Lots of people eat alone during the lunch hour, and my husband is at work. I'm a hungry hungry pregnant person. I won't let my pride get in the way of eating!

I don't feel awkward at all. If nothing else, you don't have the "Where should we eat?" discussion that you can get when you have a group of friends getting together to eat.
Does eating a ice cream alone in public count, I dont feel as guilty because other people were eating ice cream.
i wouldn't eat alone. i do go out to eat with my two year old.
@MangoWOW@xanga - Aw what you feel isn't weird at all. I feel okay eating alone in public because I feel like my face is fairly attractive since I get hit on occasionally, but if I haven't washed my face, my hair isn't done, and I have glasses on, I just feel like that ugly girl in the corner all alone.
I don't think you should have to cover your mouth at all, though, unless you literally stuff bowls of food into your mouth and proceed to chew with it wide open. That's just disgusting if anyone does it.

Nah. I dislike being around tons of people in general, but when I'm working around christmastime (which is mostly when I eat in public alone). I don't feel awkward.
Who gives a crap, right? Everybody's gotta eat, and just because I look ravenous because the meal is actually hot doesn't hinder my job. Everyone understands how cold it is. And me being a tiny little thing as it is makes them even more understanding.
Screw 'em. I don't care xD I need the food.
Now any other time of the year, out in public, alone or with others, eating...people will stare at me food on my plate or in my mouth, so I've grown to ignoring them. If I don't want eyes on me, I just won't go out.
i eat alone sometimes because I need "me time". If I'm on a lunch break from school or work..but even then it isn't like I'm starring off into space, sometimes I'm reading stuff for school, a magizine or a newspaper, which takes the place of conversation.
I like eating with people as well, in fact I prefer it over eating alone.
I think eating infront of people is weird.
In public and alone is mortifying. :/
