During the winter, my family likes to hot pot, which is essentially putting in raw food into a pot of boiling water; the foods used should cook fast, like thinly slice beef, fish balls, tofu, and veggies. It's an activity that can warm you up and fill you up like a real meal.
I particularly like hot pot because you don't have to really cook, you just put it into a pot and wait for it cook. You can buy everything from the mart, and use it as it is, unless you have to cut some of the larger items of food like vegetables.
There are variations of the kinds of foods you can put into hot pot and the kinds of sauces, to either use as a soup base or to marinate the food after it's cooked, too. I just use soy sauce, but there's also a Chinese barbecue type of sauce that I used to enjoy (sorry I can't recall the name or the brand).
Would you hot pot? What would you put in hot pot?

yummmm. :D haha, it's fun to eat in the summer in the AC..
shabu shabu is everywhere these days. yes its really good but i prefer homemade as opposed to outside restaurant shabu shabu cause it just tastes different. the spicy shabu shabu is really spicy, im always afraid to try the mongolian shabu shabu cause i dont eat goat meat or whatever meat it is but other than that, shabu shabu is really yummy. theres even korean shabu shabu. fondue is americanized shabu shabu :)
I LOVE shabu shabu. But I think the fun in sharing and cooking with friends/family is equal to the taste.
My favorite is the cabbage(?) The kind you make kimchi out of. Hahaha. : )

I've heard there's a restaurant named Shabu Shabu in my city and they make good hot pots, but unfortunately I havent tried it out :)
Those pictures look delicious though. Maybe I'll pay the restaurant a visit soon!
I love hotpot, esp the soup that has been cooking for so long.. The flavors mixed together makes it the best soup ever. I especially love chinese lettuce in my hotpot!
Hot potttt <3 I remember once I had a hot pot that even had a frying pan ring around it, and I could fry little prawns in butter. So awesome. I love fishballs. And the soup is soooo good after, with all of the flavours of everything...*drools*
My sister and I love hot pot! Hot pot (Chinese) usually has a lot of flavor. Shabu shabu is usually more light tasting. I always buy hondashi (shabu shabu flavoring) from the Japanese market and add a packet to the broth when we go out to eat shabu shabu. The broth tastes soo good afterwards.
The sauce is called Shacha. I LOVE HOT POT.
i'd love to try that! :D
being european, all i've tried is the swiss kind, where you use boiling oil instead of hot water.
who doesn't love a giant melting pot of shared germs? I know I do
hot pot aka "da been lo" rocks.
my fave shabu place is Zabu Zabu in Berkeley. i like the Chinese herbal soup option there. it's all you can eat and they bring out plates and plates of thinly sliced meat. so fattening yet so yummy. by the end of the meal i feel like the fattened lamb.
my fave things to boil: thin sliced lamb, cuttle fish balls, napa cabbage, "dou miu" (Chinese bean sprouts, the green ones not the white ones), "meen gun" (gluten balls), and udon
spicy hot pot is yummy!
my favorite things to put in it are noodles (rice noodles, i believe), napa cabbage, and thin slices of meat :3
i've never had that but i guess now i know what it is for the next time i go to a restaurant that has those i might get one.
