I get excited when I see a take out box in the fridge. Why? For one, I know inside holds some kind of Asian cuisine and it's bought so the quality of the food must be at least decent. Two, because I can't immediately see the contents inside. Three, I'm a 100% sure there is something inside because it's a container...because it was made for that purpose. Seeing the shape of the box is such a teaser, it holds something that can make your day or can disappoint your expectations; however, just seeing it elongates your anticipation because it is completely concealed.
Of course, this doesn't apply if you're the one who bought the food because then you already know what's inside. Yet, if you did buy the food, you have the satisfaction of knowing you have leftovers in the fridge.
Also, I like to see many take out boxes because it means there's more than one surprise--I particularly like the small ones because they're mini and the big ones because it should hold A LOT of food. I don't know why, but it reminds me of Barney's magical bag, where he randomly grabs out all kinds of never ending material--like craft material--from his bag; it's exciting to discover what's hidden. And maybe it's because take out boxes are something different and distracting compared to typical food-on-dish or food-in-bowl. For some reason, food looks more delicious when it's in a take out box.
What do you think about take out boxes? Do you have a similar take-out-box fetish?

For one of my design projects, I actually made a giant takeout box that you can sit on, store stuff in and even unfold it into a giant (but hard) mat. :D
no, because my asian parents reuse take out boxes and put less than appetizing things in them. :[
I hate leftovers =(
I love the boxes :)
@laytexduckie@xanga - that sounds absolutely amazing! I'd totally have one if I could!!!
@MochaSprinkle@xanga - Hahahah. It is awesome. The problem is, it cost me like about $50 to get the materials and it took about over 20 hours to make. It's also pretty heavy. :P But I still love it. :D
Haha, such a cute post. I don't get takeout much (more of a cook my own food person), so I'm afraid i don't feel quite the same thrill. However, I do admit to something similar when my relatives bring me food and I see boxes from the bakery!
I refuse to order Chinese food from any place that doesn't serve their food in takeout boxes.
Actually I don't really like having Asian leftovers. The sauce is too thick, it has too much MSG (period).... so I tend to just cook my own Asian food, this way I can control the amount of salt I put in..
