A recent look through the Better Living section in the Bergen Record, my local newspaper, yielded this
short piece about a nearby bakery. Despite the name -- Parisienne Bakery -- the store specializes in Japanese-style baked goods. As the article indicates, there are a number of items on the "menu" that might be scary to those who aren't so adventurous when it comes to food, including tofu cheesecake, green tea pudding and fried curry doughnuts.
Likely more accessible would be the bubble tea, ice cream and cream puffs also offered. This
blog entry features some pics that should whet your appetite. Mmm...delicious puffs... *drools*
I myself am not terribly adventurous when it comes to food, but my curiosity is definitely piqued by those doughnuts. I might just have to pay a visit to Parisienne. To the bakery!
Do you enjoy Asian-influenced baked goods?

That picture is killing me. Yum.
I'm really adventurous with food and wouldn't hesitate to try anything on the entire menu. Food is so interesting.
I think b/c the items are meatless, I'd be more adventerous. It all sounds good. The donuts sounds all kinds of amazing.
I want to make love to that picture... sorry, what was the question?

Ooh! I live by an Asian bakery and go there all the time. Red bean doughnuts are my favorite.

I've gain a few kilos just looking at the pix
Oh my god, I used to work there!! They have the best strawberry shortcake.
I work there! :D
i think that Parisienne isn't Japanese, it sounds like a lot of Chinese bakeries that make Japanese influenced things because lots of Asians like Japanese style food. looking at what they sell--bubble tea, egg custard tarts, buns with scallions, and just how they wrap their baked goods--all of that points to Chinese owners. i have never seen Japanese owners wrap their goods with cellophane like that. also, bubble tea is a Taiwainese thing and has spread to other parts of Asia, but i have NEVER heard of Japanese people selling it.
Beard Papa, now that is Japanese
i know it might not matter to alot of people, but trust me, there is a big cultural and taste difference in HK baked goods and Japanese baked goods. not that one is better than the other, but that they are different. it would be like comparing ice cream to gelato, they are different.
Yes, Asian-style baked goods are awesome! Some of the Japanese mousse cake slices are so perfect they look like plastic food. Hippo Bakery in Arlington Heights, IL and Mont Blanc (are they still around) are my recommendations.
Asian-styled bakeries are amazing. I love going to Chinese bakeries and just stare at their delicious arrangements. *drool*
I'd kill for a red bean bun right now.
@Olyachka@xanga - I was just thinking the same thing.
