When one of our writers found a 5-minute chocolate cake recipe
online here, we just HAD to try it! Chocolate cake in 5 minutes?! Of course, we'd jump at the opportunity to try it.
We later learned from another Xanga team member that she knew people did this in college all the time. What a concept!
I'll take you along in our adventure of creating our own 5 minute chocolate cake in mug! (It took us a little bit longer, and we made quite a mess)
Ours didn't look quite as nice as this one, but I think we did alright! It didn't taste too shabby either.
Let's begin with the ingredients! Here's what you'll need:
- 1 large mug
- 4 Tbsp. flour
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1 large egg
- 3 Tbsp. milk
- 3 Tbsp. oil
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips (plus some extra for sprinkling on top when it comes out of the microwave)
- a small splash of vanilla extract
We came equipped with Xanga uniform.
Add all the dry ingredients together in your mug:
Flour

Sugar
Cocoa

Mix all the ingredients together.
Add your egg and mix it a little bit.
Then add your milk and oil.
Stir everything up until it's nice and creamy.

Add chocolate chips and stir it into your mix.

Place your mug into your microwave and set it for 3 minutes. That's right... in THREE minutes, you'll have your cake and eat it too! (Actually since we put a little too much in our cups, we had to improvise and cook it for a little longer.)
And 3 minutes (or however long you need to cook it) later... voila!!! Look at that cake!

You can add some chocolate chips to the top to make it extra chocolatey. Don't for get your milk!
Yummy! It tastes better than it might look.

Do try this at home. Would you?

Absolutely. I am craving me some chocolate right about now!
You can use just boxed cake mix, too. Less messy.
I do this at home for a fast and easy cake (though I do use a Tupperware bowl with an inner cone that makes it a bundt cake). It's so moist and yummy!!
My boyfriend and I tried that awhile ago..I don't know if we did something wrong or what but the top of it tasted too hard, the middle was pretty much perfect..but then the bottom looked like the egg wasn't finished cooking and it completely grossed us out so we threw most of it away. Yours looks like it turned out good though! Maybe we did something wrong.
Now I'm hungry T.T
i wanna try one of these days.
Ohh, that looks good. :D

I wanna try this one day =]
thats awesome because i have all those ingredients!
ooooh, I really want to try this! :D
I have a question, though. The cocoa powder, is it the kind that you just mix with milk and it's ready to go, or is it that pure kind that tastes bitter so you have to add sugar, too? I don't want to end up with something too bitter or too sweet...
Thanks for any advice! :)
Oooh. I'm so getting the ingredients and trying this.
The cake was yummy.
DUDE. I'm so doing this.
