  • Aloe Vera Magic!

    post from veggie-wedgie

I always knew Aloe Vera was good for us, but I never actually tried the real thing. My dad used to buy bottled Aloe Vera juice and he always said how awful it tasted. So I never got to try it. One day I was cooking at Kimatothrafsti, I burned myself in the oven quite a a lot and they had a small aloe plant there. I cut a small piece, opened it and stuck the leaf with the juice on the burn. 10 minutes later, I felt nothing! Like I was never burnt! I was so amazed by the healing properties of FRESH Aloe Vera that I decided to try different applications. I bought a fresh big fat Aloe leaf from a health food store. First, I tried it in a smoothie. I just made my regular almond milk cacao smoothie and added some Aloe gel, about a 4cm piece that I peeled carefully. I was expecting the smoothie to taste nasty, but to my surprise it tasted exactly like it tastes all the other days. Weird, I thought. It does smell grassy, but its taste and its smell are so subtle that even plain almond milk will cover it completely. So good news! Fresh Aloe is not nasty!

Then I took the skins that still had some gel on them and rubbed them on my face, legs and arms. The feeling is quite pleasant and it gets absorbed very fast, leaving nothing behind, so you don’t even need to wash it off your face. Another surprise : I had 3 spots that would not leave for a week and after I apply the Aloe, they got smaller and started healing!

Fresh Aloe Vera is magic, great stuff! It is also better instead of buying it, if you decide it works for you, to start growing 2 of them so you can have Aloe all the time. That is what I did at least.

    Aloe Vera properties
-When applied on the skin, it heals minor burns, wounds, skin conditions and rejuvenates skin
    -Anti-aging properties
    -Feeds body cells
-Anti bacterial action- fights off fungal infections
    -Detoxifying properties
-Cleanses stomach, liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder and colon
-Vitamin rich and also helps absorb better the nutrients of other foods
-Contains 20 amino acids, calcium, magnesium, zinc, vitamins A,E,C B complex, enzymes and I also read it contains vitamin B-12, which is great news for me!

To get the gel out of the leaf, cut a piece of the desired size off the two spiny sides and carefully peel of the skin with a sharp knife. What will remain is the inside of the leaf, the gel.

To use on the skin blend it to make a paste. For anti-fungal action blend in some raw virgin coconut butter as well and apply where needed. To drink, blend some of the gel to any smoothie recipe.

*if you are pregnant consult your personal doctor before using Aloe, as it might cause purging when consumed in large quantities.

Have you ever tried Aloe Vera? Did you find any of these properties?
