Cooking for Dummies
A couple of months ago as I was in my dorm, the fire alarm went off. Apparently, the boyfriend of a friend's friend (why does that always happen?) was trying to fry chicken. He poured A LOT of oil and turned the heat on really high. So high, that it caused a grease fire and the microwave above it caught on fire.
So did you ever burn down your kitchen?

Not really
that should not be burned for ten minutes longer!
*LOL* It happens. When I was in my early 20s, I was heating up oil in a wok for stirfry and went to wash a few veggies in the kitchen when I noted, "Hm, someone started a fire outside". Except, ahem, the fire I was seeing was, er, in the wok on the stove behind me. I was just staring at the reflection. But I was a good girl, tossed baking soda on it and covered it. Took it outside. No more fire. No more wok pan either, but eh, I upgraded to a new dutch oven style one later.
Oh gosh, that happened to a family friend once and their WHOLE ENTIRE APARTMENT burned. D:
Awful stuff, but it's why I never fry. Or if I do, I use the smallest amount of oil possible.
No, but I fear I will at some point.
No, but there are times when I thought It was going to.
I never understood how people did that. You just pour a little oil in, toss in the meat or veggie, and mix it around a little. It's worked fine for years.
My parents told my brother to turn on the oven once. We have a top and a bottom oven, and the bottom one's used to just hold dishes, pans, plastic and glass wares, etc. He accidentally turned on the bottom oven and after a while we saw a flame leaping up from the corner of the over.
My roommate was boiling water in a tea kettle then retreated to her room with the door closed. She was a weird one, wanting privacy when she was home alone. I need not tell you what happened next. She immediately went out to buy me a new kettle and A LOT of air freshner by the time I returned home!
Never have, and don't have plans of doing it in the future. Though, multiple times I have gotten burns on myself from the cooking. My first one was when I was cooking eggs, the pan got way too hot, and as soon as I put the butter on it, it turned brown...bad sign right? I didn't care, poured the eggs on a little too fast, they fried and slapped me on the arm. Didn't cook for another week. :D
One day while babysitting my sister (I was 19 she was like 2) I wanted french fries, but I wanted to fry them on the stove rather than bake them. I had a friend over at the time, and I set to putting the oil in the pan and heating it. Well, when I put the fries into the oil, some of it got on the side of the pan, and set the side of the pan on fire. I freaked, took the pan from the stove and put it under cold water. (Yes, I know...water for grease fire is bad) Flames shot up, I stupidly sat the flaming pan of doom on the counter and screamed. My friend ran in, by this time smoke detector's beeping away. He threw baking soda on the pan and I'm fanning a towel over the detector. The entire time, what is my sister doing? Sitting on the couch laughing her butt off. My lesson for all of this....bake the fries from now on.
My cooking partner*** literally BURN DOWN the classroom
SHE RUINED MY GRADES IN COOKING CLASS
Almost. Although I've never burned down the kitchen, I came pretty close. Repeatedly. >_<'
No, but my old college roommate would always forget to turn off the stove. Luckily somebody was always home to turn it off.
