  • Fooding In Irvine At Tokyo Table

A special Fooding in Irvine entry on Tokyo Table at the "newly" opened Diamond Jamboree plaza at the corner of Alton and Jamboree in California.

Warning: This place is not for the die-hard sushi eater. It is full of Americanized rolls and appetizers and may surprise some by the utter lack of raw things. See (Irvine) menu with prices here.

Started off a wonderful dining experience with a nice pot of mint tea, amazing flavor and smell, though too much of it can be overpowering.

Cast-iron pot kept the tea nice and warm all through dinner, definite plus and worth the [$2.50USD+tax]

Next off, the Spicy Tuna Summer Roll.

Spicy enough to feel the heat but does not cover the taste of the rest of the ingredients. Very light and appetizing taste for [$9.45USD+tax].

Getting into the heavier parts of dinner.

Very sweet but delicious Spider Roll made with soft-shell crab. Nothing out of the ordinary about these rolls except the presentation but delicious as usual. Well worth the [$12.45USD + tax]

    Some non-diced up raw tuna.

The Red Eye Roll. Wonderful presentation, very normal taste. Pretty much a Spicy Tuna roll with a slice of tuna on top so a bit overpriced at [$13.45USD+tax].

The heaviest dish of the evening, the Lobster Dynamite Roll.

The lobster sauce on top of the rolls is absolutely delicious. Served on a heated cast-iron plate, the warmth of the rolls is a very nice contrast to the previous items. Although the most expensive dish (and the smallest), it was worth every penny at [$14.45USD+tax].

Had four people sharing the above items so had some room for desert:

Very delicious Strawberry Napoleon with equally delicious presentation. Can't see from the photo but between each layer, there is a small scoop of vanilla icecream. Very worth it at [$9.45USD+tax].

    Notes:
    - Please don't mind the high amount of noise on all of the photos, the place was not very well lit (though it did create a nice atmosphere) for photography and I did not want to blind the room by taking my flash unit with me so resorted to high ISO.

How often do you go out for Japanese food?

Every so often [: I am the die-hard sushi eater <3 I am craving some now!

My boyfriend and I loveee sushi, so we go out a lot for Japanese food (but the prices are quite pricey!) ... we like Kabuki the most, and I like Tokyo Lobby. I get stomachaches from the raw fish at some Japanese restaurants, but I still lovee it.

I went to Tokyo Table at Irvine a few months ago to celebrate midterms being over and ... eh my boyfriend and I will never set food into there again.

We waited for about half an hour, ordered a lot of food. Eel rice, cheese mochi (yech, good but fattening) and lootss of sushi. He got a strawberry lemonade that wasn't on the menu and asked for a refill. The bill came back and he was charged 3 something x3. Apparently refills cost money and they didn't bother to ask us. We paid with an American Express gift card, but after 20 minutes .. we find out that the card is not accepted. >.< Whatever, I thought it would be good (it was okay) but the bill was +$50 for a few dishes. If you want to eat at that center, eat at Guppy's :) or 85 bakery.

mmmm my kind of place (lack of raw sushi).  jfood is delish.

there are lots of things over at that plaza... GUPPY TEAHOUSE was especially disappointing. 85C Bakery is good the first couple of times, but after you overindulge, you kind of want to stay away from that place for a while (especially since it's lots of carbs!!)

Oooo. The presentation looks beautiful! The dessert looks the best. hee hee.

I don't go out for Japanese too often any more. There was a time when I had it at least once a week. I'm now tired of it, but I'd be up for it if friends or family wanted to have Japanese; I would just not be the one to suggest Japanese any more.

    Very lovely pictures!

    When I can, basically :)

But I'm a broke high school senior so that means stopping by a restuarant and buying one simple roll every now and then XD
