Food At the Night Markets of Asia
post originally posted on tripcrazed
Every year in March, ARCC holds an event called Night Market. Night Markets are popular in many Asian countries. People go there to eat and shop and generally enjoy hustle and bustle out in the open air. The ARCC Night Market simulates this by having a lot of Asian student organizations sell food. It's a great fundraising event for the organizations, and people get to enjoy lots of different foods from all over Asia for a pretty decent price.
I've participated in Night Market all three years I've been here. The first time, Karen roped me into making posters for ARCC, but the last two times I've been helping out with Big Straw. This year we made chicken curry, vegetable curry, rice to go with it, and we had a lot of leftover Thai iced tea from our last fundraiser.
Big Straw warming the curry, making rice, and pouring teaYay, live entertainment in the form of C.Joy!
Lamb fried rice from the Hapas. They wanted to mix Asian and Mediterranean cuisine
Tang hu lu from TSA
Fried udon and kaya toast from HKSA
Weird soda bottles with a ball inside, some pancake thing, thermal coffee containers, and something else from αΚΔΦ ... I didn't really visit their table
Yay it's Big Straw again! Mmm Thai tea. Mmm magazines.
Lambda Phi Epsilon's pork bun. They also had shrimp tempura
KΦΛ and their kimchi pancakes
ARCC's red bean smoothie. They also had chang fen and some sort of meat skewer
Pi Delta Psi's bulgogi and scallion pancakes (the tiny sliver in the foreground, sorry). They also had honey jasmine tea, mmm.
Bao bing! From KSA
So much food, so little stomach space! I think I missed out on three organizations. One was an Indian one selling some veggie dish, one was selling beef bowls, and the last was the table next to PDPsi. I can't even remember who was there, haha. Perhaps JSA with yakitori?
I still have a lot of tea left over. I took eight full jars home. In between my roommates, random people, and me, we've finished 1.5 jars already. The rest are lined up in my freezer like a collection of weird orange tombstones.
(oops... Picasa rotates my photos for me, but the originals are unrotated. Forgot about that. Vote to have this ability integrated on Xanga please!)
I'm getting pretty sick of this stuff. Delicious though it is.Do you participate in any food fundraising events or attend them?

I haven't in years. I am so old. However, when I am on campus and happen to pass one, I donate if the food looks good/interesting.
